Acadians
People who lived in the French colony of Acadia, which was located on the east coast of Canada. Many French Acadians were deported to Louisiana in the 18th century.

Riel, Louis >> The leader of an 1869 Métis rebellion over Manitoba land rights. Riel later won a seat in the House of Commons, but was forced into exile in 1874. After inciting the North-West Rebellion, Riel was executed for treason in 1885.
